Student Production Team
The production team is the backbone of every show. From directing to stage managing to prop, set, and costume creation, they use their unique skills to ensure each production is a unique work of art. Together, they are the hands that shape the production.
Yet young theater students are rarely given opportunities to build these skills, denying them the creative agency that is vital to their growth as artists.
Our student-led productions are different. Our student production team learns the art of producing hands-on with the support — minus the creative control — of seasoned Heartstrings staff members. Each student on the team plays a vital role through the entire production process, from casting to showtime. This culminates in a complete three-show run of a play with a cast of Grade School-aged actors that is guided by their creative vision.
Plus, members of the student production team do not pay any fees, including show tuition and are credited as production team members in our digital program.
We know that our students aren’t just “theater kids” — they’re dedicated artists and creative leaders.
We’re here help them turn their dreams into goals.

STUART LITTLE: Student Director
The director takes charge of the production process and shapes almost every aspect of the show. It's the director's job to answer the difficult question of "why": why stage this show here, now, with these actors and for this audience? In essence, why does this performance matter?

STUART LITTLE: Student Stage Manager
A stage manager is like the hub of a wheel—the central, stabilizing core from which the spokes of a production radiate. Stage managers in all disciplines are broadly responsible for ensuring that the production runs smoothly from first rehearsal to final curtain call.

STUART LITTLE: Student Costume Designer
Costume designers tell a story through clothing, using the language of fashion to help express aspects of the show’s setting, mood, and characters. With each wardrobe element and accessory, costume designers bring the characters and settings to life, and immerse audiences—and actors—in their time period, culture, and world.

STUART LITTLE: Student Set Designer
The set designer is responsible for designing the scenery—and more broadly, the artificial environment —in which the performance takes place. They are masters of facsimile and reproduction, whose designs immerse the audience and actors in the world of the characters.
